How a boring afternoon gave me my first break

A random big audacious shot

September 2022, I had an awakening. I wasn't leveraging the resources on campus and making use of the money and effort I spent to come to an Ivy league.

Good opportunities are obscure and seem either unattainable or irrelevant majority of the times. We wave our hand and let them pass by.

One afternoon, I was doom scrolling on the UPenn careers website, but this time I chose to go on the job board for external applicants instead of student openings.

After persistently trying to find some connection with my relevant skill set and behavioral science background, my eyes caught the word, “Nudge”.

Penn Medicine had posted a job for a senior design strategist with 7+ to 10 years of experience to the lead the design work at the Nudge Unit.

Had I been like most other people, I would have doubted myself, considering I worked solely as an intern or apprentice for 2 years and dismissed the opportunity.

But, guess what? I decided to send my resume and cover letter by taking a leap of faith.

3 days later, I got a reply which I hadn’t expected in my dreams. The director of the Nudge Unit reached out expressing interest in my profile!
